Iron Extraction in Val Trompia
Metal Processing in Val Trompia has very ancient roots; it is not given exactly to know when mining activity originated in Val Trompia but, by the country's statutes Valtrumplino of Bovegno approved in 1341, we can imagine how important already in the XIV° Century this activity was; in these Statutes it is written: "... we establish and ordain that any person wanting to do some "medolo" (iron extraction) can have a chance to begin where he wants or at any place and in the territory on that person is located and where he likes".
The Valletrompia 1576 Statutes reaffirm the concept by stating: "It is held that each person who wants to make some medolo, he can start activity where he likes, and anywhere in his sight". It is therefore permitted to anyone who has the opportunity to begin with mining activities in search of iron or other ferrous materials.
